The admission process at Saint Louis University is highly personalized, and we’re here to help. We look at each applicant to determine their preparation and potential for college-level work.
At SLU-Madrid, we are looking for students who wish to learn about the world around them through their academic coursework, as well as through interaction with an internationally diverse community.
Application deadlines are for the submission of our online application only; additional admission documents can be sent in after these deadlines. We encourage you to apply sooner to increase your chances of getting greater financial aid packages and scholarships, and to leave ample time to secure a student visa (if needed).

2. Submit Your Documents
Applicants are required to submit the following documents:
As part of the online application, you will be asked to write a 500-word essay. The topic is indicated on the online application.
Official High School Transcripts or Academic Records
Seniors must submit a sixth- or seventh-semester transcript. If you have already finished high school, you must supply your final transcript.
Standardized Test Scores
SLU-Madrid acknowledges that standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT are offered less frequently and in fewer locations worldwide than within the U.S. Our findings, which are consistent with those of other institutions and national research, show us that a student’s high school record is an accurate predictor of future success.
If you are studying in the American education system outside the United States you may decide to send SAT or ACT scores or not.* If you feel that your standardized test scores do not represent your abilities and potential for future academic success you may choose not to submit them. All applicants will be reviewed for merit-based scholarships whether or not they have submitted standardized tests. Make sure to write to your admission counselor to let him or her know that you are applying test optional.
If you choose not to apply with an SAT or ACT you must submit the following:
- Résumé/CV; eportfolio; video
- Two or more recommendation letters
Please note: If you haven’t completed your full secondary education in English, you must submit a standardized test such as the TOEFL, IELTS, or the SAT or ACT as proof of your English proficiency.
*Students applying to study nursing, aviation management, flight science or any of the degrees in the Doisy College of Health Sciences must submit an SAT or ACT for admission consideration.
Sending Your Scores
If you would like your scores considered in your application, SLU - Madrid will accept both official and self-reported test scores.
Official test scores may be submitted in any of the following ways:
- Sent directly from the testing agency. SLU - Madrid’s school codes are are 2856 (SAT) and 5291 (ACT)
- Sent by your high school counselor via email (firstname.lastname@example.org)
- Sent by your high school counselor via official transcript
Self-reported test scores** may be submitted in any of the following ways:
- Enter scores in the testing section of the Common Application
- Submit screenshots or scanned copies of score reports via email (email@example.com)
**The Office of Admissions reserves the right to rescind an admissions offer if discrepancies in self-reported scores are found.
Other Test Scores
Spanish Education System: Applicants from Spanish high schools must submit their bachillerato grades and Selectividad
or PAU results when available.
International Baccalaureate: International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma program candidates must submit their high school transcripts and IB scores. Predicted scores may be sent if final scores are not yet available.
French Education System: Applicants studying in the French system must submit their last three years of Baccalaureate (1º, 2º and Terminale) and the relevé de notes du Bac when available.
British Education System: Applicants studying under the British system must submit their A-/AS-level marks and GCSE or IGCSE results. Predicted A-/AS-level marks may be sent if final marks are not available during the application period.
Other: Applicants studying in other educational systems from those mentioned above must present their secondary school transcripts and other documentation (i.e. national entrance exam results or school leaving certificate) that would qualify them to attend to university in their country of origin. English Language Requirements
Non-native English speakers should send a TOEFL or IELTS score in order to be placed into the appropriate course. Please consult our English language requirements page for more information.
Optional Admission Documents

Although these documents are not required, should you wish to submit one or two letters of recommendation and a CV of your extracurricular activities, they will serve to strengthen your application.
If you are applying test optional then a CV/résumé and two or more recommendation letters are mandatory.
Official high school transcripts and test scores (with the exception of the ACT and SAT) can be sent by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by mail to the Madrid or St. Louis campus. You can also have your high school counselor email transcripts or have them sent through Parchment or Naviance. Essays, CVs, résumés and letters of recommendation can be uploaded to the online application or sent by mail.

3. Application Review
Your application will be considered complete when the online application and all other required or optional documents have been submitted. The Office of Admissions starts reviewing applications on Nov. 1. After that date and once your application is complete, we will notify you about your admission decision by email within seven to 10 days.
If your final grades or test scores won't be made available until after the application period, we will review your application on the basis of your latest high school transcripts and predicted grades.
