It’s no wonder that we’ve been on the prestigious President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll since the listing began back in 2006. We’re always asking ourselves what else we must do for — and with — our neighbors.
Center for Service and Community Engagement
Serving as the bridge between SLU volunteers and the community, The Center for Service and Community Engagement aims to prepare participants to be effective servant leaders and agents for social change. The center also oversees campus-wide service efforts.
This national movement — which involves more than 50 high schools and universities — got its start at SLU in 2001. Today, SLU's Campus Kitchen volunteers cook and deliver more than 2,500 meals to our neighbors in need every month.
Community-Based Clinics and Centers
Faculty and students in our Legal Clinics and Health Resource Center have helped underserved St. Louisans for decades. We’re also a founding and sustaining partner of Casa de Salud, a non-profit health clinic that provides care to immigrants in the region.
Named for the Biblical prophet Micah, who spoke out against social injustice, the Micah Program brings students together who are committed to performing service at various places throughout the city of St. Louis, such as schools and tutoring programs.
Billiken Teacher Corps
Through this unique partnership with the Archdiocese of St. Louis, students in the Billiken Teacher Corps are teaching in urban Catholic schools and living together in a faith-based community as they pursue their master’s degrees in education here at SLU.
College Access Programs
Through our access and college-readiness programs, we help underrepresented students prepare for and succeed at SLU. We also recently committed to strengthening our efforts to enroll students from disadvantaged areas in St. Louis.
Community Engagement Inventory
As a university, we’re constantly looking to encourage innovative and collaborative efforts that can improve the community we’re proud to call home. Our Community Engagement Inventory tracks our activities in the region and maps the relationships between our SLU community and the greater St. Louis community.
